Kai Po Che: Music

Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Music: Amit Trivedi

In the times when we see more remixes/reprises than originals in an album, only 3 songs for a Bollywood film is a welcome change. But not when someone like Amit Trivedi is the composer, who brings so much innovation every time with his new album.

You've already heard 2 minutes of the soul-stirring Manjha in the first song promo. But with its length of roughly 3 minutes and a half in the final album, we feel cheated. With claps, esraj, bass and some humming, this is brilliant in epic proportions.

Another magical track is Gujrati folk Shubhaarambh by restrained Shruti Pathak, Divya Kumar. A familiar territory for Trivedi but he does his magic with immaculate amalgamation of shennai and bagpipes. (The "bhai bhai" call towards the end reminds me of this hilarious, hit Gujrati song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeEP7_VN97Q Ok, Sorry.)

Meethi Boliyan starts off to remind you of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's Khwabon Ke Parindey (ZNMD) but Amit punctuates his trademark later. Sung by Mili Nair (earlier collaborated with Trivedi for Coke Studio's Badri Badariyan), it's the only song that crosses the 4 minutes length limit, sadly due to its repetitiveness. A flute in the prelude and faintly throughout adds the charm to the massively peaceful arrangement.

Even with only 3 songs, Kai Po Che accounts among Trivedi's best works till date.

The problem is by the time you read this review, you would have heard the entire soundtrack thrice!
