Hasee Toh Phasee Music Review

Music: Vishal-Shekhar
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya, Kumaar
Ratings: **

Punjabi Wedding Song, conveniently sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Benny Dayal, has Karan Johar stamp all over it. That's all. Drama Queen is annoyingly repetitive with its preposterous lyrics and labored energy that neither the song nor can you bear for too long. Shake It Like Shammi is same old Vishal-Shekhar formula for party songs, with retro sounds (Shammi, you see!). New female Nupur Pant sounds too under-confident in Manchala (based on the same template of duo's own Sadka Hua from I Hate Luv Storys) where Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan remains a talent wasted. Zehnaseeb is breezy and listenable but comes with its own shelf-life. Same problem goes with the urban-Punjabi track Ishq Bulaava where the female vocal Shipra Goyal comes across very strong and likeable but Sanam Puri sounds too forced (I would like to hear Sanam's often collaborator Jonita Gandhi in Bollywood some time; here's one by them from Clinton Cerejo's episode of Coke Studio Season 3: Pinjra).

With 6 songs (thankfully, no reprises or remixes), it is the kind of soundtrack that would just be a filler even in the film. Nothing new to offer on our listening part. It's time Vishal and Shekhar reinvent themselves. Hasee Toh Phasee, though with good instrumentation in some songs, is such a stale and formulaic soundtrack from the duo.
